Press Coverage

Warren Vs. Obama

The very first post that popped up about Elizabeth Warren in a Google search was from the Huffington Post. This article is titled “After Getting Called Out, Elizabeth Warren Accuses Obama of Deliberately Hiding Trade Details.” It discussed Warren who “accused the administration of deliberately hiding unpopular details [of this trade agreement] from the public” (Huff).

The following two posts were also about this same issue. NPR posted an article that discusses Obama’s disagreement with Elizabeth Warren called “Obama: Elizabeth Warren Is ‘wrong’ On Trade.” Obama states that Elizabeth is wrong about the effectiveness of this trade agreement. The Boston Globe also posted an article, “Trade bill puts Warren at odds with state’s tech sector,” which states that Warren is one of the deal’s “most vocal opponents” and that she has made enough noise to attract the presidents attention.

This same subject came up in many different news cites and it trending in high numbers right now. Because Warren is such a popular public figure, information is being hidden from the public and Obama has taken the time to address Warren and her opinions, this has become a huge national issue. For this reason, many news outlets of all different kinds have been covering Elizabeth Warren.

I wanted to see what some of the more republican newscasters think of this issue so I went to Fox news and saw their article titled, “Liberal Darling Elizabeth Warren Stands Up To Lame Duck Obama on Free Trade.” While I thought that Fox would have something negative to say about Warren they just briefly focused on the same issues that the previous articles had.

The media is generating news about Warren. I do not believe it is her team covering this issue. From all the links that I looked at I didn’t see anything that is attacking or hurting Warren’s image, I think that it is actually doing the opposite. Warren has been known to stand up against what is wrong and a fighter for the middle class and this instance proves her integrity, honesty and willing to call the big guys out for their errors. I think that Warren calling out the secret details of this trade agreement goes to show that whatever the details are of this agreement; they are bad news. I think this movement will actually gain Warren’s credibility and more people will push Warren to run for office. This is a crucial aspect to Warren’s image.

Even though Elizabeth has already stated many times that she has no intentions of running for the 2016 elections, this will give her even more support if she does happen to change her mind. I think that Warren’s actions will gain her more support overall. If she were to run for the elections, I think that she is has already set herself up on a great platform.

  1. As you mentioned Obama has commented on what Warren has said on this issue, but have you seen any other major political figures comment on the issue? And if so, what are their opinions on it?

  3. This issue has been a trending topic the last couple of weeks so by now there have been many many famous people who have commented on this issue. Most of them agree that there should be more transparency to the deal. I think as of right now, Warren would be receiving some really positive feedback just because she has actually been making a lot of awareness for issues that most others have not had the courage to say. She has really proven herself as someone fighting for the best interest of US citizens.
